Multicultural EXPO 2016
The Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo (MCA) held its annual flagship event, the Multicultural EXPO on February 13, 2016, 12:00PM – 5:00PM at MacDonald Island Park. The EXPO brought over 30 diverse cultural groups living in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. The event featured traditional dances, cultural attires, food, face painting, Multicultural photo booth, henna tattoos, cultural activities, and artifacts.
Attendees were taken on a tour of the world as they made their way through each country and immersed themselves in each culture. Though the total attendance decreased significantly the approximate revenue per person attending increased by 78%.
The Multicultural EXPO 2016 was launched on the evening of Friday February 12th with a community play, UBUNTU TOWN, at Keyano Recital Theatre. The community play was directed by, Colin Funk, from a professional theatre artist from Banff, Alberta. UBUNTU TOWN was well received and adequately portrayed the human kindness in Fort McMurray.
Total number of volunteers and volunteer hours added up to 182 and 1143.05 respectively. The EXPO welcomed 90 cultural performers to the stage.
