Joy Flett is from the Athabasca-Chipewyan First Nation and grew up in Fort Chipewyan. She is currently Aboriginal Relations Advisor with Suncor Energy. Mother to one son, her career has been solely focused within the Aboriginal communities in the Wood Buffalo region. In 2014 she was the recipient of the NAABA Aboriginal Women in Business award, and in 2015 was honored with the Regional Aboriginal Recognition Awards for Female Citizen of the Year. Joy was raised by her traditional grandparents and lived on the trapline until age 12 from May to August. Today she holds the trapline in her name after her grandfather passed away in 2011 at the age of 93. Joy is a proud Dene woman, who loves the land, her people and is very self-driven with a huge passion to give back to the community she calls home.
