Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo in collaboration with the Fort McMurray Islamic School will be hosting the Speak Up Against Racism Workshop.

 Location: Fort McMurray Islamic School

 Date: March 22, 2018

 Time: 9:30am – 2:00pm

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on 21 March of every year as set by United Nations. This year’s working theme is Promoting tolerance, inclusion, unity and respect for diversity in the context of combating racial discrimination. The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is an opportunity for all of us to renew our commitment to building a world of justice, equality and dignity, where racial discrimination has no place. Racial discrimination violates the inherent rights and dignity of women, men, and children all over the world including Canada.

The Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo (MCA) has hosted Tackle Racism Completion and award ceremony and a similar workshop for the last 4 years. This program has created awareness about racism and its harms to society. This year, MCA in collaboration with Elementary and Junior High Schools in RMWB are launching a sustainable “Speak Up Against Racism” The project aims to involve 6 students and a teacher from all participating schools. The theme this year is focused on utilizing social media tools as means of Speaking Up Against Racism and Promoting Inclusion & Diversity.

Since this is the second Speak Up Against Racism workshop, schools need to be sure to send different students from those who participated last year.  This workshop will involve students from grades 5 – 9 and will be held March 22nd, 2018 in the Fort McMurray Islamic school.  Moreover, the workshop will be a full day engagement with students, teachers and community members from 9:30am – 2:00pm with free admission, snacks, and lunch.
