Human Rights Day is observed on December 10th of every year. This commemorates the day on which, in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In 1950, the Assembly passed resolution 423 (V), inviting all States and interested organizations to observe 10 December of each year as Human Rights Day. Individuals, institutions and social profits come together to recommit to the principle that, all persons are equal in dignity, rights and responsibilities without regard to race, religious beliefs, colour, gender identity, physical disability, age, ancestry, place of origin, sexual orientation or otherwise.
This year, the Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo (MCA) will join other communities around the world on December 12, 2017 for the Celebration of World Human Rights Day with theme “Our Rights, Our Freedoms” A practical approach to increase awareness on human rights in our community.
Human rights are our basic rights and freedoms. They include our right to live, our right to health, education, freedom of speech and thoughts, and equal rights. Please come and join community experts who will share their knowledge on a diverse-human rights responsive approach to:
• Promote equality
• Empower youth, and other vulnerable population
• Reduce discrimination
• Promote inclusion and respect for diversity
